ECAS Dashboards

Each ECAS team works to identify gaps in the system and collaborates around solutions in order to improve outcomes on the following dimensions.

HI BASELINES 1

Births

(1) Indicators

- Preterm Birth
- Preterm Disparities
- Prenatal Care
- Substance Use During Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding

Each year, close to 17,500 babies are born in Hawai'i. These newborns deserve a healthy start in life. Unfortunately, too many babies in our state face developmental challenges even before they are born.

In Hawai'i, there are enduring disparities in patterns of preterm birth and infant mortality between racial and ethnic groups. Learn about the baseline data that drives team 1.

Hi BAselines 2

Families

(2) Indicators

- Child Abuse and Neglect
- ACE's
- Intimate Partner Violence

During early childhood, strong, positive relationships between children family members and other caregivers are key ingredients for healthy brain development. When young children face severe adversity, such as the conditions of poverty or abuse, the structure of their brain can change forever. Supportive caregivers can shield young children from stress and ensure that it doesn’t become toxic. Learn about the baseline data that drives team 2.

(3) Indicators

- Medical Home
- Child Developmental Screening
- Child Food Insecurity

When young children with developmental delays are identified early and receive the supports they need, those children are more likely to develop to their full capacity and reach school ready to thrive. Team 3 is working to help families support their children’s development and learn how to advocate for the supports their young children need. Learn about the baseline data that drives team 3.

Hi Baselines 4

Access

(4) Indicators

- Child Care Slots
- Early Learning Reach
- Child Care Cost
- Child Care Subsidies

All children benefit from attending high-quality early-learning programs. Yet for many families, particularly those in poverty, these opportunities are out of reach. Research shows that children facing challenges related to poverty, disabilities, or limited English proficiency often benefit the most from these programs. Learn about the baseline data that drives team 4.

Hi Baselines 5

Quality of EC Programs

(5) Indicators

- Early Intervention
- EC Workforce

High-quality early childhood programs and interventions can support children’s physical, academical, social, and emotional development. Team 5 is working to strengthen and support the early childhood workforce, enhancing knowledge and skills of practitioners, and implementing strong practices to support early childhood development and school readiness. Learn about the baseline data that drives team 5.

Hi Baselines 6

EC Language & Literacy

(6) Indicators

- Parent Child Interaction
- Words Matter / LENA

The first years of life are the most active period of language and literacy development. Children develop language and pre-literacy skills though interactions with families, care providers and early educators. Team 6 is working to support families, care providers and early educators in their efforts to strengthen early childhood language and literacy development. Learn about the baseline data that drives team 6.
