Seeing patterns, and telling stories

During our small group discussions, participants uncovered a range of causes and effects around important helping or hindering forces present in the system. We paid close attention to moments where causes begin to run into effects- this showed us that a feedback loop was happening!

Our next step was to continue to notice these patterns and visualize them in causal feedback loops. While it may sound technical, these loops are simply a powerful way to tell a story of how the system truly operates.

Based on the stories they shared, we were able to tell many different types of stories through different types of loops. Get to know the different types of loops that you will see!

Curious to see more? Take a look at the interactive Kumu board. How does telling our stories as patterns change the way we think of them? Or how we are able to use them? Which patterns in the system feel particularly meaningful to you? Zoom in and let us know your thoughts.
